Billy Graham:- “Time for Realism”

The flowery tributes to Billy Graham are to be expected from those without biblical accuracy or spiritual discernment. But, to see the same accolades coming from those who we thought could be trusted with God’s word is disturbing. And to be called ‘heresy hunters’ because we disagree with the sickly show of Princess-Diana-type gushing of emotions for Graham is worse. (See article A-859: ‘Are we heresy-Hunters’?)

For more on heresy and our attitude and actions concerning them, see separate article. In this paper the topic is clearly set out – we do not see Graham as others apparently see him. Here I will show full justification for our attitude.

I began to mistrust Graham way back, when he was dealing with communist Russia. I will now repeat some of the proven facts that caused me such concern, gleaned from those earlier critical assessments. We started to be critical of Graham in 1987, before we were using computers. In this paper you will see why... and I defy anyone who thinks we are ‘heresy hunters’ to explain themselves. What matters is God’s glory; not the meagre opinions of false critics.

Billy Graham – a Man of God? Outline written in 1993 (O-015)

The opening paragraph reads thus:

“If a man teaches or does things that oppose God in a major way, can he still be called a 'man of God'? That is, can he still claim to be doing God's work according to His will? Billy Graham is very much an icon - to many he is an idol - within the Christian Church. He is praised for multi-thousand attendances at his rallies. People point to the huge number of responses to the 'altar call'. Why, then, should we question the veracity and integrity of the man? The answer is a very simple one... Billy Graham has fallen a long way from true evangelism and from the truth itself. And the 'responses' can be taken with a huge pinch of salt.”

Christians who see Graham, or ANY preacher’, as an icon, should beware. It has been claimed that Graham’s crusades had thousands of ‘conversions’. Yes, this happened... I saw it for myself in crusades held way back in the 1960s. But, I was not impressed. Indeed, I watched and listened intently as my brother and I sat way up in the top-tier seats, when those around us were intent on chatting, guzzling Coke and eating crisps and sandwiches. I heard a group playing emotive music, and saw a man stand on stage. I heard what he said and was not impressed at all. I then saw people walk up the aisles after a continuous call to come forward... and I MEAN continuous! When few came, the music became even more emotive, and the speaker kept pushing for people to ‘come forward’, until a few more walked to the front.

At no time did I recognise Graham as the preacher, and at no time did I hear anything remarkable or all that biblical. But, the fact is – many who were ‘converted’ in Graham campaigns fell away again. And it was fact that the Crusade team directed people to Roman Catholic churches. Some were even directed to synagogues. I witnessed this myself, as I witnessed ‘counsellors’ who were definitely not spiritually able to be counsellors, doing so.

Whatever we wrote in those early days was based directly on actual authentic reports. For telling the truth we lost half of our readership in that period... BECAUSE readers saw Graham as an icon and not as a fallible man. Indeed, some letters were ‘over the top’ because the writers went so far as to accuse us of... blasphemy! We can all fall and fail spiritually. I have done so, and so have you. That Graham could also fall was not the issue – we acted against what he said and did.

These were concrete evidences that could not be ignored, but many STILL ignore the facts. Some matters can be kept low-key, but not what Graham said and did. I was never ‘heresy fighting’, but speaking truth when so many refused to face the facts. And, to put this in context – if I have ever taught what scripture does not, critics would be right to question me.

We concluded that perhaps Graham was saved at some stage in his life and initially taught the truth. (I may, or may not, come to the same conclusion if I researched his life more deeply). For myself, my earlier years were spent teaching an Arminian gospel, and I was very wrong. So, I am not vaunting myself.

Let me give an idea of why I opposed Graham thirty years ago; the quotes are found in our article...

"Dr Graham is the front man, the chief spokesman for a growing group of people who believe in yoking up with unbelievers. They believe that a man may be saved without believing that the Bible is true, or without believing in the virgin birth, or the deity of Christ...co-existence with...infidels..." (Daring: Both Ways At Once, by John R. Rice).

“Billy Graham calls infidels, liberals and modernists "godly men".” (Billy Graham and the Church of Rome, by I. Paisley).

Many of Graham’s associates were not just dubious but unblbical, if not unsaved. Bear in mind that Graham received his doctorate from a Roman Catholic Jesuit college; an ‘honour’ only given to those who advance the cause of Rome and Romish ‘doctrines of devils’.

“Graham is on the Board of Fuller Seminary, which was led by a man who publicly attacks 'fundamental' Christianity (that is, true faith), and who is a modernist who has acted on behalf of communism. Graham has been quoted as being a "friend of the Jesuits" in the USA (Catholic Herald, June 3rd, 1966). Anyone who has the barest knowledge of Jesuits, understands that they are the most cunning and most devious of Catholics, whose oath of allegiance includes a vow to murder Protestants if they are called to do so. Jesuits, by order of the Catholic church, were behind the assassination of President Lincoln. He knew of their plots. Graham is a frequent speaker at many Catholic colleges and seminaries. He has himself said "I feel much closer to Roman Catholic tradition than to some of the more liberal Protestants." (The Greenville News).”

Graham attended many Catholic Masses, and told his followers to listen to ‘world faiths’: "I believe there is a great deal to learn from other religions in the Far East... especially from Buddhism." (Reformation Review, reporting on a visit to Japan). These are the words of a genuine ‘man of God’??

Graham is probably to blame for the later ‘love is greater than doctrine’ heresy, for he told people that they may take scripture figuratively or literally, as they wished, because ‘love’ was greater, an excuse often used by charismatics to avoid doctrinal truth! Thus he claimed that men like Albert Schweitzer “must be in Heaven” because of his work amongst natives.... even though Schweitzer was an unbeliever who denied the deity of Christ, calling the Saviour “an epileptic”!

“Graham does not teach Biblical salvation, but says there are many ways to God; those who have been brought up in Christian homes are automatically Believers, even if they have not experienced personal salvation; he also accepts that child-baptism regenerates and saves the child (reported in the Lutheran Standard). In a Brazilian crusade, Graham allowed (and... invited) the local Roman Catholic bishop to 'bless' the crowd (New York Times, Nov 9th., 1963). He has himself admitted that the majority of support for his crusades comes from Roman Catholics... of course it does - Graham is giving them new converts on a plate! One Roman Catholic priest even suggested that his church may one day canonise Graham!”

The Graham Crusade administration spent large sums repudiating critics, whilst still retaining a massive income. Yet, ecumenists openly admired him for forwarding their cause (quoted from the Ecumenical Press Service, July 14th., 1966, referring to the very London crusade I had attended, where ‘converts’ were directed to local Roman Catholic churches!).

Billy Graham – Apostate, Outline written in 2002, O-123

I hope you can see that we published these disquieting facts well before Graham’s recent death. So, we are not ‘heresy hunters’ but honest critics of what he said and did. We only concentrated on his very open major teachings. This 2002 article was written because

“We have been accused of presenting information on Billy Graham that is ‘dated’. It is true that what we have said before is mainly from the 1960’s and 1970’s. Our accuser said that surely a man can change. To which we reply, of course he can. But, this has not happened to Billy Graham in a good sense. He has changed from bad to worse.” (Opening paragraph).

As we pointed out to those who accused us of being so unfair:

“We concentrated on Graham’s earlier years because it was filled to the brim with so many examples of his apostasy and explain his current position. After those earlier years Graham simply gave us ‘more of the same’, so there seemed no point in repeating accounts of the same errors and behaviour.” (Second paragraph).

AND

“In previous articles on Graham we have stopped short of saying the man was unsaved, but now we wish to place on record our belief that, after all, Billy Graham does not appear to be a Believer. Who are we to make such a decision? We are Christians called by God to a glorious salvation, sinners saved by grace alone who recognise our own sinfulness, but also our fullest righteousness in the righteousness of Jesus Christ. As such we are commanded to judge our fellow Believers ‘before the world does’. We can only go by what Graham himself says and does.”

We can only go by what a man says and does. We do not make assumptions and we never make accusations if there is no proof. Can you see this? When Graham admits to Fox News (2nd January, 2000) he did not know if he would enter heaven or hell, it was a very grave thing to say to a worldwide audience, casting doubt not only on his own salvation and scripture, but on all who listened to him.

“Graham’s gospel messages appear to be real. Some of them are very close to truth, but the ones I have heard are Arminian. His idea of repentance and salvation are Arminian, based as they are on what we must do to achieve salvation. He says the path to salvation and righteousness is founded on ‘doing better’ and ‘being a better person’. None of this is acceptable from a famed preacher.”

Graham’s name was found on two Freemasonry websites as a member, but when the news leaked out his name was removed. Freemasonry ‘worships’ all and any gods, so this coincides with Graham’s ecumenism. (Source: Cutting Edge website).

“Masons accept all and any beliefs and blend them into one religion, which can be summed up as ‘doing good’. This is how Graham describes being a Christian.”

AND

“Sadly, countless folk believe they are saved because they exhibit Christian workings. Graham is one of them. One cannot fake salvation, but one can certainly fake ‘Christianity’. Our churches are filled with fake Christians who speak and live just like the real thing.”

AND

“He even claims that pagans will go to heaven! (TV interview with Robert Schuller, May 31st., 1997, and reported by the Christian News, October 1997). Graham said publicly that Muslims, Buddhists, Christians, non-believers, are all members of the Church of Christ “because they’ve been called by God”!! He bases this on the fact that people know “something is missing” and this, to Graham, is proof that they belong to God (basically the Alpha message, too).”

AND

“When the interviewer pressed Graham on this, he expanded on his view, leaving us in no doubt whatever that he is apostate and probably unsaved. He said that it did not matter if a man knew the name of Jesus (even though it is the only name under which we can obtain salvation), or, if they had heard the Gospel, so long as they turned to the ‘only light they have’ and acknowledge there is a God. Really, this should be ‘god’ with a small ‘g’, as it applies to ALL false religions hated by God.”

AND

“On June 8th 1997, in another interview, Graham was asked about his relationship with well-known godless heretics, Fulton Sheene and Norman Vincent Peele. Graham said that when one of them died the whole emphasis changed regarding Roman Catholicism, and he was drawn in fully by that heretic church. It does not matter what denomination you are, he said. He has praised the pope as the most illustrious Christian of this century.”

AND

“It is about time Christians cut their ties to this ‘great man’, whose greatness is certainly not scriptural, but human. His influence has not been used for the good, either, as his trip to Moscow in the 1980’s proved. There, even though he had met a family of persecuted Christians, he declared that he knew of no persecution in Russia! Thus, in one fell sweep, he denied Russian Christians and left them to their awful fate, praising the communist regime.

Billy Graham is apostate and probably unsaved, a prime mover in the coming One World Order, as he hands millions of followers over to the pope, a gift from one heretic to another. If you support him, his crusades, or his ministry, you support heresy and godlessness.”

Billy Graham – Still Apostate. Article A-434, written 2012

“Billy Graham, way back in 1978, admitted that he was more Roman Catholic in thought than Christian. (McCall's, January 1978, quoted by Dave Hunt: ‘A Woman Rides the Beast’, p. 388), when he said, "I've found that my beliefs are essentially the same as those of orthodox Roman Catholics." (Repeated in ‘Billy Graham and Rome’ by Chris Pinto, worldviewweekend.com 16th January 2012).

AND

“The Second Vatican Council appeared to welcome other religions, and from that time Graham became more and more ecumenical. As Chris Pinto says, once we understand that Graham is trying to fulfil the mandate of the Second Council, we will understand why he is almost completely Romanised.”

AND

"For some unexplainable or even mysterious reason, Billy Graham is unable to discern the theological, moral, and spiritual soul of Roman Catholicism. Likewise, he has failed to grasp, or worse still, has chosen to ignore the historical character of the entire Vatican system. Instead, he has chosen to become attracted, impressed, and finally to honor and follow the Holy See. The result has been a tragic failure on his part to understand the difference between the truth of God's Word and the utter blackness of Roman Catholicism …" (p22, ‘The Assimilation of Evangelist, Billy Graham, Ewin Wilson).

Graham was awarded the Roman Catholicised Templeton Prize/Award:

"Obviously, it would be dishonest for anyone to accept the Templeton Prize for Progress in Religion who was not in complete sympathy with its purpose and the beliefs behind it. The very acceptance of the prize constitutes an endorsement of all that the prize represents. Nor can any evangelical recipient claim ignorance, for Templeton's neopagan views have been widely published for years." (Hunt, ‘Occult Invasion’, p. 534)

AND

“But, this is no random recognition just for sending people to local Catholic churches. It seems to run far deeper. He had the support of two major figures, who were also members of the formidable Knights of Malta. It is their task to ‘service the pope’ in whatever way he demands.

The two famous Knights were Randolph Hearst, the newspaper magnate, and Henry Luce, founder of Time, Life, and Fortune magazines. Between them they pushed Billy Graham into the limelight; Hearst told his editors to make a big deal of Graham, to “puff Graham (up)” and anything Hearst said was the law, even though he was a known prolific liar and manipulator. Luce, too, was up there with major luminaries influencing millions of readers.

Both of these magnates conspired to vaunt Billy Graham on behalf of Rome, and to present him as the voice of Protestant Christianity. Why? The reason is obvious! Graham was converted in mind and heart to Romanism, and if he spoke in the right way, Rome, too, could hold him up as a great man, and so Protestant truth would be undermined.”

AND

“So, in his long preaching life, Graham proved himself to be a Roman dupe, making sure that whatever he said was pleasing to the pope. He was, then, a true turncoat and co-conspirator with Hearst and Luce, in return for fame. It is why the then pope pulled him towards his face by his lapels and said “Listen Graham, we are brothers”! (Billy Graham, during his meeting with Pope John Paul II, reported in Today 6/8/89).”

Would ANY true believing preacher meet with the pope? NO! Graham ignored very precise texts that warned of believing those who taught evil and lies, even after counsel. Dr Cathy Burns devoted 800 pages with detailed footnotes to Graham’s anti-Christ activities:

“Dr. Cathy Burns dedicated some 800 pages (200 of which are footnotes) to exposing Graham's antichrist endorsements in her book, Billy Graham and His Friends. The "friends" that the title refers to are an assortment of new age and occult practitioners that have routinely led millions of people into spiritual darkness. One such friend was Dag Hammarskjold, the second Secretary-General of the United Nations. Hammarskjold was once invited to speak at the World Council of Churches (another one-world group openly supported by Graham), and personally designed one of the most occult epicenters anywhere in the world: the United Nations Meditation Room.” (http://www.worldviewweekend.com/worldview-times/article.php?articleid=7895  )

The UN itself is godless and Marxist and will support and promote ANY belief system BUT Christian. Thus, the UN said of its ‘meditation room’:

“In the original plan for the new Headquarters, a tiny room had been provided as a place dedicated to silence, where people could withdraw into themselves, regardless of their faith, creed or religion, but Dag Hammarskjöld wanted something more dignified. In his efforts he was supported by a group, composed of Christians, Jews, and Moslems, the 'Friends of the UN Meditation Room', who combined their efforts and provided the money for a room worthy of a world organization." (UN.org article, "A Room of Quiet, The Meditation Room, United Nations Headquarters").

AND

"… the stone in the middle of the room has more

to tell us. We may see it as an altar, empty not because

there is no God, not because it is an altar to an unknown god,

but because it is dedicated to the God whom man worships

under many names and in many forms." (Hammarskjold, UN).

AND

“The UN is still intent on controlling the world, and even on genocide. It will bring in a one world system that has a one-world religious cover. The man Graham said was his friend was nothing but an antichrist, but Graham did not seem to realise it:

"In the 1950's, when I was in New York City, I would occasionally slip by to visit Dag Hammarskjold, secretary-general of the United Nations, and have prayer with him. He was … trying to make a difference for world peace, in large part because of his Christian convictions." (‘Billy Graham and His Friends: A Hidden Agenda?’ by Dr Cathy Burns, p. 132, quoting ‘Just As I Am’, by Billy Graham, pp. 685-686).

Yet, it is fact that the UN is, and always has been, Marxist, and ALL its Director-Generals have been Marxists pushing a Marxist agenda; Hammarskjold was a strong Socialist – another word for communist. Despite portraying a very broad kind of ‘spiritual’ understanding, he himself claimed his biggest hero was the communist mass-murderer Chou En’lai (Quoted in New American, 2016: as this source points out, no-one who advocates liberty may apply for the role of Director-General, because the Marxists who run it would simply reject such a man).

“Hammarskjold had declared his godless beliefs, and yet Graham said he could ‘pray’ with him! Nothing has changed – Graham seems to have no discernment at all… which is why, in another article, I seriously question his salvation. Along with the UN, Obama, Blair and many other leaders, Graham has helped to redefine what is meant by ‘Christian beliefs’ to such an extent that black has become white.”

AND

“Graham is endorsed by Robert Schuller, the fake super-church leader who teaches and practices the New Age maxim of self-esteem. So blasphemous is Schuller that he even rewrote the Lord’s Prayer, saying “And we can pray, ‘Our Father in heaven, honourable is our name…” (Schuller, ‘Self-Esteem: The New Reformation, by Robert Schuller, p. 69). Schuller redefined sin, by saying that sin is anything that detracts from any human being’s sense of self-esteem! (Burns; p113). Dr Burns even tells us that Schuller desires to stop calling himself a Christian, so that he can better align with Muslims and Hindus, and wants to embrace Islam.”

Burns says in her book:

"Schuller's Crystal Cathedral actually houses the offices for a group called 'Christians and Muslims for Peace' (CAMP). Schuller told Imam Alfred Mohammed of the Muslim American Society he wouldn't be bothered if he came back in 100 years and found that his descendants were Muslims. In fact, Schuller has recommended and written a forward to the book ‘More in Common Than You Think’, which 'declares that Christians and  Muslims are all one in our true worship of God.' He even had the author speak on his August 28, 1999 program." (Burns, p. 116)

Am I ‘persecutory’ to oppose Graham on this matter? Am I wrong to question his spiritual understanding and teaching when he aligns himself with such satanic teachings? Am I wrong to denounce his opinion that "Robert Schuller is a great man of God, whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop and loose."... a phrase only used to describe Christ! (Burns, p121). Graham was a spokesman for both Roman Catholicism and Islam. This infamy and foulness is certain and espoused by Graham:

"Well, Christianity and being a true believer -- you know, I think there's the Body of Christ. This comes from all the Christian groups around the world, outside the Christian groups. I think everybody that loves Christ, or knows Christ, whether they're conscious of it or not, they're members of the Body of Christ ... I think James answered that, the Apostle James in the first council in Jerusalem, when he said that God's purpose for this age is to call out a people for His name. And that's what God is doing today, He's calling people out of the world for His name, whether they come from the Muslim world, or the Buddhist world, or the Christian world, or the non-believing world, they are members of the Body of Christ, because they've been called by God. They may not even know the name of Jesus, but they know in their hearts that they need something that they don't have, and they turn to the only light that they have, and I think they are saved, and that they're going to be with us in heaven." (See documentary on worldviewweekend.com "Megiddo II: The New Age" for a video clip of the interview on Schuler’s ‘Hour of Power’).

Graham was simply repeating the words of John Paul II, Larry King interviewed Graham when this pope died.

“GRAHAM: And tonight, I have a very strange feeling of loss.

I almost feel as though one of my family members has gone.

I loved him very much and had the opportunity of discussing

so many things with him. And we wrote each other several

times during the years.

KING: Did he actually say to you once, "We are brothers'"?

GRAHAM: That's correct. He certainly did. He held my hand

the first time that I met him about 1981 -- he'd just been

Pope for two years when I saw him first. Because when he

was elevated to the papacy, I was preaching in his cathedral

in Krakow that very day. And we had thousands of people

in the streets. And watching the television today of Krakow

has brought back many memories.

KING: You said that he was an Evangelist.

GRAHAM: He was, indeed. He traveled throughout the world

to bring his Christian message to the world.”

Well – these are just a few evidences or, rather, proofs, that Billy Graham was NOT the great man so revered by so many! Rather, he preached a false Gospel and directly sent ‘converts’ to Roman Catholic and other religions, and made all false religionists equal to followers of Christ.

What I have given in this paper are actual solid examples of Graham’s ungodly teaching and associates. If this is why some call us ‘heresy hunters’, well, we look upon them with sadness for their inability to discern the spirits. God help them to overcome their unbelief and refusal to face the facts, thus dishonouring the Lord. As a ministry teaching true doctrine it is part of our role to also condemn and oppose certain godless teachings. We never go searching for heresies to write about – they must arise themselves and be made known to others. That is when they MUST be condemned roundly. In this we will continue.

Note: I have given the reference numbers for the three papers this one is based on, if you wish to check them out for yourselves.
