“Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:.”
Many Christians think they can call on God for all kinds of reasons, and expect an instant response. They seem to have no concept of how God works. If the answer they seek is not immediate, or within a time-frame they have devised, they lose heart and some even dismiss calling on God as useless. It is very nice when God gives an instant answer (and I have known quite a few), but God works when He wills it – no sooner and no later. And sometimes it is very much later…
Wealthy Abram was called to leave his home in Ur, in the Chaldees. He took his immediate family with him, and God promised his descendants would become a great nation, and he would become a cherished famous name.
Well, he and his family travelled many years, through deserts and mountains, but he did not see his family grow to be a nation, and his only real fame was in being a fighting man able to keep his own.
Did he become despondent? Did he therefore forget the promise from God? Did he realise that his descendants would have to wait a few hundred years before they became the cherished nation of Israel? No. But, he continued anyway.
God can take His time, even if He has given you a promise. For God, time is nothing, so His promise might not appear in your own lifetime, but be attached to your offspring. Yes, His promises all come true and will come about. We live in an impatient instant world, but God is in eternity. His promises DO come, in HIS time.
