“Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.”
It is assumed that mankind only ate herbs and green things until this time (about 1500 years after Creation). Now God says every animal is to be treated as food. However, the text is not final proof that men were vegetarian until this time, though it might be implied. At any rate, in this text God says men can eat anything they wish, whether meat or vegetation.
It is important to understand that we only suppose men could only eat herbs until this time. This is so that we do not get into the habit of treating supposition as actual fact. We must always read scripture as it is given, and not as we prefer! (a big problem in all churches).
Today, ‘authorities’ are trying to make us all eat insects. Even John the Baptist ate locusts – a common meal at that time! We (including myself) grimace at the idea, but, in truth, God Himself said we could eat “every moving thing”!
The main point is that no man or woman should force anyone else to just eat vegetation. Not even the Lord forces us to eat meat OR vegetation. It is our own choice.
(I once had a job interview at an employer’s home. It took me many hours to reach it, and was hungry, but I didn’t know he was vegan. All I got was a large plate of green and white stuff, all leaves. I was SO hungry!! I left his home mid-evening and thanked him for the meal – but immediately went into the town to buy a bag of chips!! It is inconsiderate to assume what another person eats or does not eat. Just ask!
It is also unbiblical to assume God means something, when there is no absolute proof that our interpretation is correct. No harm done by the employer – but there can be immense harm when we substitute our own ideas for God’s perfect word.
