A Christian reader’s comments on recent news… what do YOU think?

The proposed Koran-burning by the Dove World Outreach Center in Florida on 11 September 2010, is making a stand against Islam and its doctrine of hate and persecution of infidels and all who refuse to bow the knee to Allah.

There is too much deference shown to Islam and its followers by the West, and even Christians don’t offend the bully (Muslims) to keep the peace. This is wrong and aggravates the bullying as the bully knows they can get away with it.

Politicians try and separate “peace-loving” Muslims from criminals, terrorists and governments. Yet the Koran clearly teaches overcoming the infidel by force and those who refuse to bow the knee to Allah. This is not some rhetorical statement, as it is openly documented in current affairs that Christians living in Islamic regimes are persecuted with the destruction of their property and even to death for their religious beliefs. So, it is okay for Muslims to hate, kill and burn Bibles, but not for a measured response!

The Koran books that are being burnt are the legitimate property of the Church in Florida. If they want to burn them they have the right to destroy their own property. In the context of the remembrance of the 9/11 destruction, which was done in the name of Islam and Allah, and the recent defiance and arrogance of Muslims wanting to build a cultural/worship centre/mosque near ground zero, to promote “inter-faith understanding”, why can’t American Christians show their rejection of the teachings of the Koran and burn it? After all, it is what Muslims do with anything Christian! Yes, it is extremists who do the nasty work - but it is the moderate Muslims who allow them to do it, because they, too, fear the terrorists.

In the Old Testament there are many examples of God-fearing leaders destroying the precious groves and idols of idolaters e.g. Judges 6:25. In the New Testament there is a clear precedent of Christians who have repented and believed in Jesus Christ burning their books of evil (Acts 19:18-20).

The dividing line, that politicians refuse to acknowledge, is the difference between persecution for the faith of any religion, including Islam, and evil done in the name of a religion, Islam and the Koran, to control and subdue and assert their authority on the West.

Islam is a cultural, sociological movement as well as a religion, and it is no friend of the West; just like Fascism in Germany it excludes and persecutes. It also hides under the ‘madness’ of ‘tolerance’, an idea used by everyone, including gays and Muslims, to get their own way no matter what.

Islamic leaders know that by bullying with their violent protests and persecutions, the West will back down to keep the peace. Appeasement never worked in the past, so why now? Nobody is going to be hurt in the act of destroying a Koran. However, there are real fears that Muslims will show their true colours again across the world in killing Christians if the Koran burning goes ahead.

Recently, in Glasgow UK, when a Bible was exhibited with the sole purpose of encouraging gay graffiti to be written all over it and another Bible was deep-fried in batter like a fish, all in the name of ‘Art’, Christians protested peacefully and assertively, but without violence. No death threats. No effigies burnt on the streets. No rioting and threats of violence and death to the unbeliever.

Politicians and the broadcast media love to quote Winston Churchill, yet they would never dare to reproduce this commentary written by him over one hundred years ago – little has changed, except that Muslims are much better at propaganda and have developed their economies in some areas on the back of Western technology.

"How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property - either as a child, a wife, or a concubine - must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men. [...] No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step..."

Winston Churchill, (1989) The River War, First Edition, Vol. II, pages 248-50, London: Longmans, Green, 1899

Christ said Christians should love their enemies (Matthew 5:44). The Bible also teaches Christians to preach the good news of forgiveness and peace with God, and to reprove and rebuke evil, with meekness (2 Tim 4:2)  - a major difference to the doctrine of the Koran.
