Why are we ‘standing with Israel’?
Our resolve has nothing to do with politics, nor do we necessarily agree with everything said or done by Israel.
Our stand comes from scripture.
“Hath God cast away his people?” (Romans 11:1) “God forbid”!
“God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew” (v2).
Romans 11:25-29 says, "blindness in part is happened to Israel (i.e. as a nation), until the fullness of the Gentiles be come in.
And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written...
For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.
As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes; but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers' sakes, For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance...."
The fullness of the Gentiles appears to be the end of time, when many Jews will turn to the Messiah. In Genesis 12:3, God says He will curse those who curse the seed of Abraham, and nothing throughout scripture says that His promise has been removed. The land promised to them (far greater than Israel now has) belongs to them in perpetuity. So, the modern claims against Israel concerning its land are anti-God and against scripture. They are also against the Mandate for Palestine, 1920-22, and the land given to Israel by the League of Nations.
Read our A-038 to see how even Muslims accept that their claims on Israel are false. And the present-day Palestinian idea of Middle Eastern history is fabricated, to replace actual history with its own version.
Since Hamas began its constant bombing of Israel, with no objections from the UN, Israel has responded in a measured, responsible and firm way. It attempts at every turn to only retaliate against Hamas in a very limited way, to minimise civilian casualties, but, as Hamas always hides in residential areas (hoping it will deter Israel’s military retaliation) Israel sometimes has no choice but to send rockets into them. It is therefore the fault of the people for allowing Hamas to use them as human shields, and of Hamas for being terrorists. Furthermore, Hamas also kills its own people for the sake of blaming Israel.
Beware of cursing Israel or fighting against its existence, for God has already judged not just Hamas, but all who attack the people God originally chose, when He has not cast them aside totally. On the other hand do not be deceived by emotion – Israel can get it wrong at times. And it still denies that the Messiah has come. Even so, God is with Israel, despite their faults, because of His eternal promises. This is why we stand with Israel, as a point of biblical principle, and as an opposition to Islamic terrorism.
